The Emerson Sessions, Volume Two
Yesterday Canary released the second and final song from our recording session with Pete D’Angelo at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. He did an amazing job with this and I’m looking forward to working with him again hopefully very soon.
You can download it for free at www.canarytheband.com. And I suggest you do because you might find something else you like along with...

But getting comfortable with less than we can achieve is less than we deserve.
– Matt from fear.less, an amazing online magazine that is always good when you need a pick-me-up
The quote is taken from the most recent email titled It’s Embarrassing To Be Yourself. As we all know, this is true for everybody sometimes. And the quote is also very true. It’s easy to...
United As One
I was 11 years old on September 11, 2001. It feels like an eternity ago and yesterday all at the same time. I can tell you exactly where I was when I found out what had happened, as can nearly all of us.
Before I played guitar or wrote songs, I wrote poems. This was written shortly after September 11th. I can remember sitting at my kitchen table and writing it.
A huge thanks to my aunt...

Help The Hungry / Rock The Vote
One of my former high school teachers is running for mayor of Biddeford, my hometown. I really wanted to help him out because I feel like he’s the best candidate for the job. His name is Alan Casavant and he truly loves Biddeford and wants to see it thrive.
I was coming back from a day visit to Long Island, Maine (not New York. Yes, there is a Long Island in Maine). On my boat ride I was...

CANARY
I have somehow in the past eight months failed to mention one of the most important things in my life: my band, Canary.
I mentioned Canary once many moons ago, back in the fall of 2009 when it was something far different than it is now. Its initial inception was myself singing and playing guitar in a trio with my friends Isaac Haselkorn and Kyle Hovland. That idea lasted a mere six months. I...

The Blues (Part One of Many)
I’ve been brushing up on my blues history recently, something I should have done years ago. I never realized how uneducated I am! I thought I knew a lot of the old great blues musicians - I’ve barely scratched the surface.
My current Blues Legend of Choice is Howlin’ Wolf. I’ve been well aware of Chester Burnnett for a while now, but I never went much further than being...

We cannot burn Mick Jagger!
– Martin Scorsese, Shine A Light
The beauty of Shine A Light is that it exists. The Rolling Stones continue on by the grace of God. If you look back at their history and everything the Stones did (I’m currently reading Keith’s autobiography), by conventional means, they shouldn’t...
That's What's Magic - Bob Lefsetz and Tom Dumont
Many of you probably know who Bob Lefsetz is, but for those that don’t, he writes a letter - pretty much whenever the mood strikes him - about the music industry. Well, more often than not it’s about the music industry (a letter a few days ago was about his car). Anyway. Week in and week out, people reply to his emails. Recently he wrote a letter about Lady GaGa and how Adele has...

The One More Song Mentality
Some people have the One More Bite mentality.
Some people have the One More Minute mentality.
I have what I have recently dubbed as the One More Song mentality. I also have the above mentalities, but the one that dominates is one more song. Just one more! I swear! Then that turns into two. Then three. Then it becomes one more album, and eventually one more time through my entire iTunes....

I'm awful at tumblr..but it's summer now!
So I’m about a week late on this post, but the semester is done - officially done because grades closed today. It’s summer! Yayayayayay!
It’s crazy how fast time flies. Graduation was Saturday, and there are a lot of people that I said goodbye to that I probably won’t see ever again or at least not for a very long time. I could be wrong, and I hope I am wrong. The...
Agreed. On all accounts (READ THIS). →
My friend Katie Lannan wrote a brilliant post about our generation not too long ago. I just came across it now.
Katie Lannan, YOU inspire me.
katielann:
But not to harangue.
A while ago, an educator spoke candidly—and vehemently—to me about what he feels my generation is doing wrong.
Pretty much everything.
Through his eyes, we are spoiled, entitled, indolent and apathetic. If through a...

Ready...Break!
Technically my break started Friday. And even though classes aren’t taking place, my break isn’t much of a break - in a good way! This is the best and by far the busiest spring break I’ve had.
I spent the first (also known as this) weekend of it in my favorite place, New York City, doing one of my favorite things, going to shows. I also did some heavy duty shopping, hit up...

Bruce Wrote a Song for Harry Potter...Seriously. →
illbeonthathill:
who knew?! i know i didn’t!
if this is true….holy crap.
Springsteen wrote this ballad [‘I’ll Stand By You Always”] sometime between 1998 and 2000. He was inspired by Harry Potter books that he was reading to his youngest son Sam. This is not a children’s song however. Sometime in early 2001 Bruce made the song available to director Chris Columbus, who at the time was...

Canary LIVE at Church!
Tomorrow night my band Canary is playing at Club Church with two of my incredibly talented friends: Lynda DeFuria and Brian Dunne.
This is our first show and we’re really excited! It’s gonna be a lot fun and it’s cheap! Seven dollars. Bring your friends. Bring your relatives. Bring everyone!
Hope to see you there!
One of the best TED Talks I’ve seen. So worth 20 minutes of your time.

Keith Richards Quotes That Directly Apply To My...
Keith Richards is one of my biggest musical influences. I fell in love with the Rolling Stones when I was 14, and they (and Keith in particular) seriously changed my life. Through the Stones, I was introduced to the blues, and that is something I am eternally grateful for. They were my gateway band.
Earlier today I was searching for a quote that Ronnie Wood said about playing with the...

Three
I recently realized three very important things to me. Realize isn’t the best word to use here because they’re really obvious. Consciously aware is a better way to phrase it.
That being said.
1. Progress is one of my favorite things ever.
This is why I’m obsessed with physical therapy. I may be the only person I know that likes physical therapy. Like is an understatement. ...

October
Where did September go? Seriously. I blinked, and now it’s October. The ridiculous weather we’re experiencing in Boston certainly isn’t helping in convincing me that it is in fact October.
Along with October comes foliage, Columbus Day Weekend, a New York City adventure, the World Series, Midterms, and Halloween. I love all of these things, except Midterms. I even love the...

Personal Best
I’ve been running sporadically for a couple of weeks now. My first post-surgery run was a one-miler in 9:51. I was pretty excited about that. I thought I would be crawling, but I wasn’t. My next run (also one mile) was somewhere around 9:30. Wow! I couldn’t believe I cut 20 seconds of my time in a day. A couple of days later, I did a little bit more than a mile. Maybe a...
Sometimes
Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up, and I’m always grateful that the pick-me-up I need usually involves playing music.
I’m working on a really cool project with such insanely talented people that it blows my mind. I do not deserve to be involved in this. Sure, you can look at it as just a project or a show, but it’s so much more than that.
Sometimes I need a reminder...
